Melissa's Toby

It's been difficult to write this blog, since documenting the event would make it real. But it is indeed real, and my constant companion of 12 years is now running free in far greener and bigger back yards than Sandy Springs.

I got home around 3pm on October 17th to find my Golden Retriever lying in a seemingly casual position on the living room floor. But seeing his blonde frame a little too close to a chair for comfort and his mouth partially open, I realized something was wrong.

Melissa,
I am so sorry for your loss. Pets become family and when they are gone a part of you is gone. I am glad that you know that Toby is in heaven.

As I read your blog tears are running down my face. Not for Toby as I know he is in a wonderful place now, but for you because I know how hard it is to "make the call". He will be waiting for you with tail waggging when you meet again.

I am so sorry you lost Toby! I know it had to be so hard for you. I have been listening to the Bert Show for over 6 years now and I have cried so many times at your stories (mainly when you were dealing with the obstacles of getting your kidney transplant and was afraid insurance wasn't going to cover it) and now I am crying again. I pray for you to have peace in knowing he is seeing perfectly now and looking down on you!! Take care!

Reading your blog was quite moving. I have had puppy dogs all my life, and watching them pass is something that can't be avoided. Animals are such cherished friends and family, and I hope that God opens up your heart to find another furry friend to open your home up to again. I hope God helps you deal with the pain of losing your boy. God Bless.

Melissa,
I sm relativly new to ATL.I have been in alittle over a yr, and have grown to love you guys. What a heartbreak it must have been to loose such a part of your family. I am sorry for your loss. However, you are right, he's in a much better place, in green fields, and peace and most of all surrounded by your love. He was lucky to have you, as you were him.
Much simpathy to you ;

Melissa, I am so sorry to hear about Toby. I am a lifelong dog-person, and recently lost my 13-year-old furry daughter. She had been with me since my freshman year of high school, lived in the dorms at college, and seen the first 3 1/2 years of my marriage. I know what it is like to lose that kind of a friend, and I can tell you that while you will never forget Toby, take comfort in knowing that you gave him an amazing life that any dog would have been proud to have.

Melissa,
So many of us can relate to what you recently, and probably are still going through. When I had to make that call for my cat Alex, something my now husband(at the time boyfriend) said to me was that Alex was there for me when I needed love, company and support, and now that I had the right one in my life, Alex knew I'd be ok. Maybe you can find comfort in knowing Toby was there for you when you needed him most in your life, and he knows you are going to be taken care of with Kati Jo.

Let me wipe my tears...I am so sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to make that decision. I had to make the same decision in April (my dog was only 7). Even though we now have a puppy, I still think about her and remember how loyal she was. You'll always have the wonderful memories.

Melissa,
I'm just so sorry for your loss of your best friend Toby. I have lost many animals in my life and each one always will hold a dear place in my heart.
You were very brave during all of this and professional to a fault on the radio.
Toby is in a far better place now, but I'm sure he looks down on you often.
