So I get this email today when I get into work:
"Wendy,
The way you read the traffic in the morning is sorta the way the girl talks that wants to be Paris's friend, you read one word at a time, you sound like a 12 year old girl-trying so hard to do the traffic-I turn the radio when you do traffic cause I can't stand to hear you read it so slowly-Sorry, but when I heard you comment on the girls voice this morning-I thought I had to tell you-that you sound the same, Sorry for being so hard, but I would rather have redicolous Crash back doing the traffic."
If you had a chance to listen this morning, I spoke my mind about what I thought about Jessica (the girl who wants to be Paris's best friend for the new MTV reality show). I said her voice sounded fake and she took forever to finish a sentence. That's what most people who called up this morning said too. But to get such a hateful e-mail about it makes me just want to stay mute. I wish I had this huge thick skin, but sometimes it bothers me. I've had a pretty good day so far, and then it's like a buzz kill when I read it. I just wish people knew that I have feelings too. I'm human. I'm still trying to find my spot on the morning show and in life in general. I finally get "guts" to say what I'm thinking and it backfires. I guess 'don't dish it unless you can take it.'
Thick skin here I come.

I totally disagree with the email. I think you sound fine. Apparently, the person that sent that email had a bad morning. Keep up the good work!!!

As a fairly thin-skinned person, I totally feel you. I'd be upset by that email as well. If that email was even constructive criticism, it may be different, but it was just mean and unnecessary. The thing about you is that you actually are a great radio personality and have a great radio voice. If you didn't, you probably wouldn't be on the show. You need to remember that Bert and the rest of the crew believe in you, as do most of your listeners. I hope you can remember that when things like this happen. You are doing an excellent job, and I was so excited to hear what you had to say today. Don't let this stop you.

You're fine. I agree that maybe this person was having a bad day. Sometimes you do sound a bit robotic(but only during the traffic report), like you're afraid to make a mistake. Truth is, it's pretty funny when you do. :o) I'd be falling all over my words in your place. Just keep on being you and don't worry about those negative emails. You have a fantastic radio voice and you're fitting in great with the morning show.

1) Never take insults from someone who can't spell... with spell check.
2) "Stupid people get angry at smart people because they are stupid and you are not." I can't say I'd blame them... If I was as unintelligent as the caller and your hate-email-writer, I would probably be angry as well... and/or would be calling the Bert Show to try to get votes so that I could be the world's dumbest person's best friend.
PS: Congrats on the whole New Kids interview. You're 007 for sure.
I have to say that my first opinion of Jessica yesterday completely matched what you had to say; this is obviously someone with way too much time on their hands - though I wouldn't mind hearing what they would sound like on the radio.
You're doing a great job. Let the comments flow off ya like water off a duck's back! Ignore the begruders and keep you head high!

There are millions of people in this city and not all of them are going to like you, it's ok! I am pretty sure you have TONS more admirers than the loser who sent you that e-mail!! He is probably one of the psycho people who left you a voicemail about liking your hair or your feet!

I totally disagree with the email and think that you should just ignore stupid people that hide behind their computers. You do a great job and I am glad you were added to the show.
Wendy you do traffic just fine. You're always sounding happy and perky. So keep it up and dont let any fool/email get you down.

Wendy, please don't let people like this bother you. I heard you defend your viewpoint the other day when the guy was giving you a hard time about the daughter who was trying to get her parents back together. I thought you did a great job of sticking to your guns. Believe it or not, it truly will get better in time. You are pursuing your chosen career and are doing traffic on a popular radio station in a major market, something I certainly respect and wish I had done when I was younger. Screw 'em.
Just as an aside, if anyone really wanted to complain, they should ask if Producer Tracey could please enunciate the words "laser hair removal" in her ads. I do voice-overs, and that kind of thing drives me nuts.

You should keep the 'don't dish it unless you can take it' thought in mind always. You do sound like a little girl, and I'm sure you're not dumb enough to not know that. Maybe the e-mail you received had a mean-spirited tone, but it doesn't make it any less true. (By the way, I'm sure if given a choice, Atlanta would choose to have Crash back. You'll just never hold a candle to him.)
I'm not exactly sure why you're surprised. I can't imagine that you're actually dumb enough to believe you don't sound like a little girl. The truth is that you do. Maybe the e-mail sounded harsh, but the writer of the e-mail made statements that hold true. Please don't ever fool yourself into believing you could ever take Crash's place. You're just filling a void because it needs to be filled, but no one will ever replace him.

Ok, am I the only one irritated by the fact that there is one person speaking for all of Atlanta? And can we please drop the "dumb enough"? If we could combine those 2 posts, I think we could use that "candle" to fill the "void".
Personally, Crash wasn't my favorite. I do, however, appreciate the fact that each former/current member of the show bring their own unique style. That's what makes it interesting and fresh and FUNNY. Come on people, give Wendy a break. She's working hard and doing HER thing HER way.

First, you're doing great! I don't hear any of the things this person brought up in the email. I also agreed with you about that chick -- it was driving me NUTS how slow she was talking!!!
Anyway, you being new at this and trying to find your footing reminded me of years ago when Jenn Hobby first joined the Bert Show. I remember listening to her at first and every other word was "um" -- I really felt for her, she seemed SO nervous and unsure.
Now when you listen to Jenn Hobby she is beyond seasoned, she's a pro and she's excellent at what she does and how she brings it to the table. To get there she had to start somewhere and you will get where you want to go b/c you are surrounded by folks who are all about letting people spread their wings. If I'm correct in my memory, this is Bert's first hosting gig for a morning show.
Don't let the naysayers bring you down. You're a delightful edition to the Bert Show and you have timing, humor and you fit in beautifully.
Good luck and God bless you as you find your way and be prepared to have to step over the critics as you climb to the top of the heap.

Don't worry about what that listener has to say! As someone who always wants to make everyone happy, I know it sucks to read stuff like that. But, ultimately, it doesn't matter what ANYONE thinks of you. You can't please all the people all of the time. Also, you don't talk slow and like a robot. Sometimes you're done w/ the traffic report so quickly I wonder if you're in fast forward. lol. And, what's wrong with having a sweet voice that makes you sound like a girl? You're a freaking girl!! Don't let a stranger's opinion ruin your day, it's not worth wasting the energy. Just be happy w/ who you are. Your opinion is the only one that matters. Keep doing a great job!
Ok...first off...if you can't use spell check you really shouldn't be making comments. I've listen to you do the traffic, and I would rather listen to your report than other DJ's on other stations.

I think that you do a great job! No offense to Jen Fallon, but I didn't think that traffic was her strong suit, but was happy to hear your reports because you don't stumble over your words and have energy when doing the report. I know that it is a tough job for anyone, but some are better suited then others. For what it is worth, the Paris Best Friend girl sounded totally fake to me and like she was trying to mimic Paris. I couldn't stand her! It was almost enough for me to go to Star 94 and that would take a lot!

Seriously, screw the jerks and keep improving on your game. You may not be perfect, but at least your there. That email is probably from someone jealous!
I think this circle of being critical others, just goes to show none of us are perfect. I'm sure the person that sent email is not perfect. If they were they would be more kind hearted and not let your voice bother them to the point that they are hurtful. Maybe we shouldn't be so critical of others.
When you get these emails send them back an email to tell them to Eat S#@t and Die. Sound pretty harsh but it'll make you feel better!
Hey Wendy, I do admit, I sometimes cringe when you mispronounce street names or speak slowly and stumble over your words. But I also know that you're new at this and you're finding your way. You'll get there and everybody has to start somewhere. I could never be on the air and open myself up to criticism -- it does take a thick skin to let the harsh comments roll off your back. Look for the good and leave the rest.

I think you read the traffic very well. It took some getting used to, once Jamie left, but you are great. The traffic reporters on the other stations have nothing on you. Keep up the good work!

I think you do the traffic damn good. I always think "how the hell does she get through that without jumbling it all up?" I would screw it up pretty badly. You're awesome so ignore the ignorance in that email.
I personally think that you've improved significantly since you started traffic. I'll admit that at the beginning it was rough going but I think you're doing a great job. Just remember, not everyone will like you and try not to let it affect you!

I personally know Jessica, and what she sounds like is exactly how she acts all the time...it wasn't an act. She really is that ditzy all the time. She would be perfect as Paris' BFF.
